Americano padel: rules, scoring and where to play it in Dubai
Americano is the most social format in padel — no fixed partner, everyone plays with and against everyone, and one leaderboard decides the winner. Here is how it works and how to join a game in Dubai.
What is Americano padel?
Americano is a round-robin format for individual players rather than fixed pairs. Every round you get a new partner and new opponents, every point you win counts towards your personal score, and at the end of the session the player with the most points wins.
Because partners rotate constantly, Americano is the easiest way to play padel when you don't have a regular four — and the fastest way to meet other players at your level.
The rules in 60 seconds
- Players: any multiple of four — 8 players on 2 courts is the classic setup.
- Matches: each round is played to a fixed number of points (16, 21, 24 or 32 are common), not to games and sets.
- Serving: serve changes every 4 points, so everyone serves equally.
- Scoring: every point you win is added to your individual total, whoever you are partnered with.
- Winner: highest individual points total after all rounds.
Americano vs Mexicano
The two formats look similar but pair players differently. Americano follows a fixed rotation decided before the session starts; Mexicano re-pairs players every round based on the live standings, so matches get closer as the session goes on. Americano is the simplest and most social; Mexicano is the most competitive-but-balanced.
